Structurally Unsound — UCL & Resolution Foundation
Editorial direction and report design for research into structural inequalities in the UK.
Urban Good worked closely with Dr Olivia Stevenson of UCL Public Policy and Siobhan Morris of UCL Grand Challenges, our clients at UCL, on the editorial direction, graphic design and layout of Structurally Unsound.
Published in October 2019, the report brings together research and policy perspectives on how inequalities overlap and shape people’s lives. It was produced through a partnership between UCL’s Grand Challenge of Justice & Equality, UCL Public Policy and the Resolution Foundation.
Urban Good’s contribution
Urban Good provided editorial steer, graphic design and document layout for the 2019 report. Charlie Peel led Urban Good’s contribution, supported by Benedict Richards of Graphicay.
The brief brought together two things we care about: making complex information easier to navigate, and using design to support work with a social purpose.

A continuing document
In 2025, the UCL team behind Structurally Unsound received the Professional Services Support for Knowledge Exchange award at UCL’s Creating Impact through Knowledge Exchange Awards. The recognition celebrated the wider partnership’s sustained work connecting research and policy, including activities and publications in 2024 that revisited the original commission.
