Slow Ways handmade cyanotypes

Support Slow Ways with a unique, handmade blueprint of the new walking routes for your wall. All profits will be invested into the Slow Ways Travel Fund. Launching later this year, this special fund will cover expenses for young people who might not otherwise go on Slow Ways journeys.

There is a ROUTES artwork and a NETWORK artwork. The former shows the actual paths that have been created while the latter shows the triangulated network that connects every place in Britain.

Both artworks are available in two sizes:

Small: 297 × 180 mm

Large: 420 × 250 mm


Every print is coated in emulsion by brush and then exposed to sunlight under a negative before being developed and dried. Powered by the sun! Your print will be unique. Orders may take a couple of weeks to ship depending on stock levels and available sunshine! Usually they will be with you within the week. 

Urban Good has collaborated with Daniel Heath again to create a special and affordable artwork to support the amazing work being done by Slow Ways CIC.

We have been prototyping and testing the artwork, exposure timings, and paper stock. We will keep updating the photos here as we begin production. 

We are printing on Bockingford® – a beautiful watercolour paper, traditionally made on a cylinder mould machine at St Cuthberts Mill, UK. This is a high-quality paper made using pure materials to archival standards. It is cold-pressed, acid-free and 300gsm.

Posted flat in a secure envelope, folded in acid-free tissue. Cyanotype is an archival technique. The highest quality chemicals and paper stock help ensure the longevity of your print.

About Slow Ways

Slow Ways is an initiative to create a national network of walking routes that connect all of Great Britain’s towns and cities as well as thousands of villages.
Using existing paths, ways, trails, and roads, people will be able to use Slow Ways routes to walk or wheel between neighbouring settlements or combine routes for longer-distance journeys.

During lockdown in 2020, 700 volunteers from across the country created a first draft of the Slow Ways network - more than 7,000 routes collectively stretching for over 100,000km - creating a unique and compelling Slow Ways map in the process. 

The Slow Ways distinctive geometric network makes it easy for people to see, imagine, plan, navigate and share journeys. This is an important, positive and timely initiative. Walking can improve health and wellbeing, help tackle the climate and ecological emergencies, save people money, improve our environment and bring joy to people's lives.

Because of the scale of support for the idea of Slow Ways, Slow Ways CIC was formed in 2020. The purpose of this not-for-profit community interest company is to inspire and support people to make the most of Slow Ways.

These are handmade prints that all have slight variations and intensities, making each print unique.
