Urban Good were commissioned to produce a guide for decision making about the built environment, Place Value and the Ladder of Place Quality. Adapted from Place Alliance research and supported by the Design Network, the report outlines in simple terms what spatial qualities add value to places—in regard to health, social, economic and environmental outcomes—and what qualities do not.
The evidence base – nearly 300 academic articles – have been collated in a new platform, Place Value Wiki.
This report presents a simple tool, the “Ladder of Place Quality,” for architects, planners, councillors, developers and citizens to quickly assess and advocate for high quality places when making policy, project or investment decisions that affect the built environment. The publication serves as a go-to resource for decision-makers to use when considering: are we making a great place?
